For a good part of her adult life, Sharon had been actively involved in her parish work and served as a Eucharistic Minister. Prior to moving to NewBridge, she distributed Holy Communion to patients at Mount Auburn Hospital.
“I am delighted to be able to continue in a very familiar role at NewBridge and serve fellow Christians,” says Sharon.

April 4th marked 49 years since Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., was assassinated in Memphis, Tenn. During his lifetime, Dr. King was pastor of Ebenezer Baptist church in Atlanta, and I had the honor of hearing the current Ebenezer Baptist pastor, Dr. Raphael Warnock, speak in Memphis at the American Jewish Aging Services Conference earlier this month.
Dr. King lived to the age of 39, and often spoke of not living to see 40. Forty is a big number in Jewish lore. It is the number of years the Israelites wandered in the desert, and the number of days Moses stayed up on the mountain. Big things can happen within 40 years.
Popeye, it seems, has been right all along. If you want to stay “strong to the finish,” you have to eat your spinach. Or at least some other types of protein-rich foods.
As we age, lean muscle mass begins to decline, but this trend can be significantly slowed with regular exercise and a generous amount of protein heavy meals. A recent study by Dr. Kelsey Mangano of Hebrew SeniorLife’s Institute for Aging Research has shown that older adults with considerably high protein intakes have more muscle mass and greater functional strength than those who consume less protein on average.
